Olivia Hubbard Interview
Miss Vermont Teen USA 2007
hy did you decide to compete in the Miss Vermont Teen USA pageant?
Competing in the Miss Teen USA pageant had been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I would watch the Miss Universe, USA and Teen USA pageants with my mother and grandmother every year. I would explain to them that someday, it would be me up there… and so I was!
What would be a typical day as Miss Vermont Teen USA be like?
For me being Miss Vermont Teen USA was both hectic and exciting! I was a junior in high school the year I won so I was preparing and apply to colleges, (I applied to 19 schools because I couldn’t make my mind up on a location!) going to high school football games, training for Miss Teen USA, taking the ACTs and SATs, working and volunteering! It was a whirlwind year~
You competed three times before taking the title of Miss Vermont Teen USA. What motivated you to come back and compete year after year?
This is actually a funny story in my family… I competed again my second year because I just couldn’t get enough of the pageant industry. After making it to the top 15 my second year I took a few months off to really think about what I wanted to do.. (I remember this like it was yesterday.) It was a Saturday afternoon and I was having a sandwich with my dad when my mom came home with the mail. In the mail was “the” post card that everyone gets saying ‘you could be next’.. I looked at the postcard and there was a picture of me on it! I took it as a sign and asked my parents if I could compete just one more time and to my surprise my parents had opposite responses. My mom (the pageant mom) said that she didn’t think it was a good idea, and that I should wait a couple more years. My dad looked at my and said “the third times a charm, go for it!” ..and so he was right, I won!
What would be your most memorable experience during your reign as Miss Vermont Teen USA?
Being Miss Vermont Teen USA was one of the most humbling things in my life. The experience alone is something that I wish each and every girl could experience. My most memorable experience would definitely be Miss Teen USA and working with the Best Buddies organization. Words cannot express how much this title impacted my life, it was amazing.
Will you compete in another pageant in the future?
I competed and won Miss Vermont Perfect Teen USA two summers ago, and I am actually planning on competing for Miss USA in a few years…
What have you been up to?
I am currently living in New York City attending Pace University as a pre-dental student with hopes of dental school shortly after undergrad. I am still active with community service and volunteer work.
Lastly, who you would be your role model and why?
As cliché as most people may think this is, my role model is definitely my mom. She is a strong-willed person who can overcome anything she encounters. She is a true southern belle and my best friend.
