Laura Tanguy
Miss France 2008 (2nd runner up)
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss France pageant?
At first, this pageant wasn’t a dream during my childhood.
I started modeling at 16, after I was discovering by Mr. Pichard, the director of the casting Elite Model pageant, in a supermarket.
I was very young but I thought it was a great experience.
This man was in the same time was regional delegate of the Miss France Committee.
When I get 18 year old I was allowed to participate to this pageant.
I will never regret this choice.
Thanks to him and my family who gave me confidence that I have today.
How and where did you find out that you would be replacing Valerie Begue at Miss Universe?
In January 2008, so many things happened.
I was a runner up, so after the Miss France pageant I came back to a quiet life, seeing my family, my friends, and thinking about what I was going to do throughout the year,
and this story came and after rumors and rumors..
I never thought I would be chosen to take part in the Miss Universe Pageant!
I was at home, my phone rang, and it was Genevieve De Fontenay..
and suddenly my 2008 changed..
Tell us about the national costume you wore at Miss Universe.
This costume was created by Beatrice Dupont of Andrezé especially for the occasion.
With Genevieve De Fontenay we presented this one each weekend.
I wore the French costume all the year during shows for the public.
The wings colored as the French flag significant the liberty. The white dress represented the French elegance.
Wearing this dress at the Miss Universe pageant was as if the French population was here with me.
The contest is not only a contest to choose the most beautiful representive.
What would be your most memorable moment at Miss Universe?
That a great question!
You know during one month “the company” travelled a lot in Vietnam!
Each day was a surprise, because each day was different!
Between shows for the Vietnam public, inaugurations, shootings, market and the contest of course!
Oh can I choose?
but I can tell you a little bit more..
My favorite moments were when we were in the street, in contact with the population.
What would be your most memorable moment at Miss World?
I'm so sorry but it’s going to be the same answer!
All these moments in school, in the market with the African society was all memorable!
They were so welcoming and they shared with of us so much of their history!
Oh yes of course, one more thing! The Safari in South Africa was unbelievable!
Nobody expected for such an experience to occur.
In the woods, the mud, the jungle, with dangerous animals and sleeping in huts!
Oh it makes me nostalgic!
If you were to convince somebody to come to France, how would you convince them?
We are always talking about Paris.
That’s not for nothing!
Look at alls these monuments, wonderful monuments where you learn about history, secrets of history!
Museums of Parfums, Haute Couture…
A pleasant place where you don’t need any cars, thanks to the metro!
You have animations for children, Disney..
And shopping!
If you prefer to be in a place more quiet don’t hesitate!
The province is for you!
During winter les Alpes, les Pyrenées!
During summer, Nices, Cannes, la Bretagne..
And of course La Corse for paradisiacs holidays!
Lastly, what have you been up to?
Since the beginning of the year, I'm working as model (shootings or catwalks), and I have done some cinema too(I worked two little roles).
But of course I continue to be a Miss.
This experience follow you all your life, but I'm getting ready to follow my nurse studies!
I will never forget my first ambition…
