Julia Bachison Interview
Miss Utah USA 2008 + Top 15 @ Miss USA 2008
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Utah USA pageant?
I wanted to compete for Miss Utah USA because I love pageantry and I love competing. I had never competed in the USA system and I was excited for the changes that would come with the different system since I was used to competing in the MAO system.
What was going through your head when your name was not announced as the 1st runner up?
"Oh Yes!" That was it.
Did winning the Miss Utah America pageant help you with the Miss Utah USA pageant in any way?
For sure!! Anytime you are trying to better yourself it stays with you. All the years of competing, and honing my interview and presentation skills, really helped me be prepared for the USA system. I was just more confident as well because I knew I had been through a similar process.
What would be your most memorable experience at Miss America and Miss USA?
Miss America- I can just remember being nervous and stressed out. I was so excited to be at Miss America that I think I freaked myself out a little bit. But my favorite memory are the girls I competed with they made me want to be a better person. Also competing at Miss America really made me want to compete for Miss USA, there is nothing, NOTHING like competing at a national level. It's Awesome!
Miss USA- EVERYTHING!! I loved miss USA so much. I didn't take anything for granted. I knew it would come and go quickly so I wanted to take it all in. The girls, the events, the competition, I loved it all. My favorite thing we did though was we went to La Reve in Las Vegas and that was so cool. I hadn't been feeling well all day and we went to that show and it made me feel better, I swear. Also Miss Ohio's stories that she would tell a highlight. I love that girl.
What was going through your head when your state was announced in the top 15?
"YES! YES! YES! ……..yes, yes, yes, thank you, thank you, thank you !!!. Oh do your pose, look at the judges, look at the camera. Where is my family? This is so awesome!!!"
Literally that is what I was thinking at that moment.
Who would be your role model and why?
Honestly, My mom. She is a really good mom. There are 5 kids in my family and she (and my dad) did such a great job a raising us and teaching us good values. If there is truly one thing that would make me really happy is to be as good a mom and person as she is. She always focused on being honest no matter what and taught me a lot about inner beauty and how the things that I do and say are always more important than the things I wear or what I look like.
