Jill Stevens Interview
Miss Utah 2007 + America's Choice @ Miss America 2008
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Davis County pageant?
I felt right to go back and competed one more time. Looking back, now I know why... there was a lot I needed to learn to keep progressing into the future.
What was going through your head when you were announced as the new Miss Utah?
“Did I forget to turn my curling iron off?”... okay, just kidding. I was actually thinking, “Oh boy, how am I going to wave? My dress is so tight!”
Tell us about your experience on the reality show, “Miss America: Reality Check”.
I loved meeting all of the girls but Reality Shows are not my thing. I don’t like the lifestyle. We had a lot of fun with it.
What would be your first though when you were announced as America’s Choice?
“AHHHHH! Holy cow I’m it!
What would be your most memorable moment as Miss America?
Well I wasn’t but I am sure Kirsten Haglund had some memorable moments.
Tell us about your service in the US Military.
I served 8 years as a Combat Medic and loved what I learned as a Soldier. It made me a stronger person physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Tell us a bit about your autobiography “It’s All Good”.
It’s a 300 page pop-up book. Okay, so really it’s unique experiences I have faced in life that I hope gives people courage to go after their own unique dreams and even new ones that might land in front of them. We all face our personal combat zones... make the best of it!
Do you think you made a difference during your reign as Miss Utah?
From what I was told, yes... I accomplished the mission I set out to do. I wanted to show that as not only women but Americans, we have the capabilities to accomplish great things... as long as it is for the right intent, we can all make a difference.
Lastly, what have you been up to since your reign as Miss Utah ended?
I am still living the life of a pulbic speaker, motivating Utah and other states, I guess. I was happily married to a man that makes me laugh like no other in January, 2009. Together we have a 10 month old son, Spike (our dog, Lhasa Apso breed) preparing us for the real kiddos that will come in the next couple of years. I work as a full time Nurse at a Children’s Hospital in the Emergency Department. Kids say the funniest things and I love taking care of them.
