Gina Giacinto
Miss Nevada 1999
Miss Nevada USA 2001 (3rd runner up @ Miss USA 2001
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Las Vegas pageant?
I originally wanted to be Miss USA, and actually ran for Miss LV as a way to practice for Miss NV USA and ended up winning the local Miss America title, then State and by the time I really knew what was happening I was in Atlantic City competing at Miss America!
What was going through your head when you were announced as the new Miss Nevada?
I believe you mean for the Miss America Organization- I actually called
the director of Miss NV USA right after I won and told her I won the Miss NV
America title so I would be back after my year was up!
Tell us about the platform you used during your reign as Miss Nevada.
My oldest sister has suffered from Anorexia and Bulemia for over 25 years and is now confined to a bed and suffers from seizures. I created an organization called
P.H.I.T. (Promoting Heath In teenagers) and got to talk in many schools and
organizations about body image and her struggle.
What would be your most memorable moment at Miss America?
Again I believeyou are referring to the MAO, I really LOVED going to Disneyworld with all theother contestants that was a great way to meet everyone and get familiar with them. The most memorable was winning the swimsuit competition in my $12.99 swimsuit from Marshalls Dept. store. That was awesome!
Why did you decide to crossover to the Miss Universe Organization?
I always wanted to be Miss USA. My mom and I would watch the competition when I was a little girl together and we would watch it on a black and white TV. I always wondered what color dresses they were wearing!
What was going on in your head as the winner of Miss USA was announced?
I was 3rd runner up at Miss USA, and when I was called for top 5, I was like
YES….now slow down and concentrate!!!! I always had fun in the competitions
and never took them too seriously.
What would be your most memorable moment as Miss Nevada USA?
Getting my onstage question and being so comfortable, confident and not being nervous. I was very excited to have Gaspar Cruz make my gown for Miss USA and when I finally met him after I won, the first thing he told me was to NEVER wear that lipstick color again. I just LOVE him! He was and still is an amazing force that got me as far as I did in Miss USA. It really takes a whole team to make you successful and I had an AMAZING team that took me from Miss NV USA to Nationals.
Lastly, what have you been up to since your reign as Miss Nevada USA ended?
I got married to an amazing man and we have 2 amazing young boys whom we homeschool. I just sold my dance studio in San Diego and we are eager and excited to plan the next phase of our lives together! I would love to somehow be involved with a pageant, either coaching young women, being part of a pageant team or running one myself.
