Cynthia Pate Interview
Miss Wyoming USA 2009 & Miss Congeniality @ Miss USA 2009
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Wyoming USA pageant?
I decided to compete for Miss Wyoming because a friend of mine tried for the title and loved the experience. She had nothing but positive things to say and made life long friends.
You competed 3 times before taking the title, what motivated you to come back and compete time after time?
After my first year, I wanted to not only meet new amazing people, but I wanted to have that chance to be a role model for my community. I wanted to show that you have to be motivated to get what you want. Nothing is just handed to you, but when you put in hard work it truly pays off.
What would be your first thought when you realized you were the new Miss Wyoming USA?
YES! Hard work and patience pays off. Now it’s time to get prepared for nationals and being the best Miss Wyoming USA I can be.
What was going through your head when you realized you were Miss Congeniality at Miss USA?
I did not realize it at first. I just noticed everyone looking at me and no one else was moving to go up and accept the award. Then I thought what an honor that I was chosen from my peers to get this award.
What would be your most memorable moment at Miss USA?
Other than being named Miss Congeniality, I was so happy to see that 51 young women can truly get along for a little over two weeks. We honestly were together 24/7.
What would be your most memorable moment so far as Miss Wyoming USA?
When I was waiting for my luggage at the Denver airport, I had two little girls come up to me and ask if I was Miss Wyoming USA. When I said yes they got so excited. They talked about how I looked on T.V. and that they saw me win Miss Congeniality. One of the little girls ran off to her parents and was telling them all about it.
What are you up to now?
Now that I am back from Las Vegas, I have been substitute teaching and making appearances as Miss Wyoming USA. I am trying to get Wyoming girls to notice that pageants are fun and you meet amazing women!
Thank you to Libby Murphy for making this interview possible :)
