Sydney Perry Interview
Miss Vermont Teen USA 2008 (became Miss Vermont USA 2011 after the interview was done)
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Vermont Teen USA pageant?
I had always wanted to compete when I was a little girl. I looked up to my mom and I knew that she was a former Miss Vermont but she wouldn’t let me compete until I was sixteen. So once I had turned sixteen I thought it would still be a lot of fun and a great opportunity for me.
What would a typical day as Miss Vermont Teen USA be like?
When I won my title I was still in high school so I had a pretty busy schedule trying to balance everything. My typical day though would probably be going to school, working out, hanging out with friends, and doing homework or going to my job.
What would be the most memorable experience during your reign as Miss Vermont Teen USA?
I had a lot of exciting and memorable experiences but I think the one that was my favorite was actually going to Las Vegas to watch Miss USA 2008. I really liked meeting all of the other teens before we were put into a competitive environment. It gave us all a chance to relax a little and start to make friendships before we got to Teen USA. I also really enjoyed sitting in the front row watching the live telecast and after the show meeting Donald Trump!
What would be your most memorable experience be at Miss Teen USA?
My favorite experience from Miss Teen USA is when we actually got a chance to go play in the water park at the Atlantis Resort. All of us girls have been in rehearsals all day every day for the week we had been there and this was our only chance to get outside and play. The best part of the water park was riding on the lazy river, which turned out to be not so lazy. There were rapids, waterfalls, giant rocks, and tidal waves. All of us girls got into the water planning to hold onto each other’s inner tubes so we wouldn’t lose each other, but by the end of the river we had all gotten thrashed around so much we all let go and had fallen out of the tubes. I had so much fun; I don’t think I will ever forget that!
What would be the most valuable thing you’ve learned from competing in pageants?
I think the most valuable thing I learned was about myself. I learned how strong and determined I am, and when I set a goal for myself, I know I can reach it.
If you could do this all over again, would you?
I would absolutely love to do this again! As of right now, I am planning on competing again. I would like to wait until I graduate college but after that I think I will jump back into pageants.
Lastly, what have you been up to since your reign ended?
Well I am now in school in North Carolina and UNC Wilmington. I am a major in marine biology so I’ve been pretty busy with school work. Miss Vermont Teen was a great time for me, but now I am enjoying this next chapter of my life just as much!
