Shannen Reil Interview
Miss Kentucky Teen USA 2008
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Kentucky Teen USA pageant?
Pageants have always been something I have enjoyed since I was a little girl. I always said I would be Miss USA, so what better way then to start in the teen division. Last year was the first year I could compete and so I did just planning to use it as practice and surprisingly I won!
What was going through your head when you were announced as the winner of the Miss Kentucky Teen USA pageant?
I was in a complete state of shock. The emcee always announces 1st runner up first, well when I heard the other girl's name I was said" congrats you won!!" Not even realizing she was the runner up until after she was like "no silly I'm 1st runner up!" The face I'm making in the crowning moment picture shows how surprised I was.
What would be your most memorable moment at the Miss Teen USA pageant?
That's tough; every moment was pretty memorable seeing how it was my first time in the Bahamas, at such a huge pageant. Plus all the girls were great and we had a lot of fun times. I would have to say the most memorable moment would have had to have been meeting Chad Michael Murray (the movie star) though. He's such a STUD! I'll never forget when he asked me what my name was and I replied, He informed that his sister had the same name as I, and of course I just thought that was so neat!
How would a typical day go during your reign as Miss Kentucky Teen USA?
Every day was something new, but I was still a student, so a typical day would be me going to school and possibly making an evening appearance, on the weekends I would make appearances all over KY. The days just varied some days busy, some I just got to relax.
What would be your most memorable moment during your reign as Miss Kentucky Teen USA?
I can not seem to pin point just one memorable moment, they were all so great! From the crowning to Competing for Miss Teen USA, I can seem to remember most of everything. All the Preparations, picking out my gown, going on shopping sprees, receiving my wonderful prizes, making appearances, helping with charities, making new friends, and giving up my title! All memorable and wonderful moments that I gratefully got to experience.
Lastly, do you think you’ve made a difference during your reign as Miss Kentucky Teen USA?
Of course, how can someone with such a prestigious title not make a difference, whether it is in your community, state, or just in an individual’s life. When working with Miss Kentucky Teen USA, you are able to do community service, work with charities, I even started my own during my reign called "Crowns Turning Frowns Upside Down" which allows kids and teens in my community that don't have someone to talk to a place where they can!!
