Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2011 (top 15 @ Miss Teen USA 2011)
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss New Jersey Teen USA pageant?
I grew up watching the Miss Teen USA competitions on TV and have always wanted to be one of those girls. As soon as I was eligible to compete I signed up! For me, entering the pageant was a lifelong dream.
What was going through your head when you were called into the top 15 at Miss Teen USA?
Did I just hear them correctly?!? I was called DEAD LAST in the line up and have never been so nervous in my life! Standing on stage waiting for the last finalist to be called from the remaining contestants (all of whom were incredibly beautiful) was super nerve wracking. When I found out I was part of the top 15 I felt some serious butterflies and relief.
As Miss Congeniality, what advice would you give to those struggling to make friends?
Even as Miss Congeniality, making friends was not always so easy for me. I've found that the best way to get friends is to be a friend from the very start- even if people aren't necessarily friendly to you. There's nothing a smile and a random act of kindness can't do!
Tell us about your first single, "Colors".
"Colors" is a super catchy, feel-good, dance smash and I CANNOT WAIT till its release!! I think when people hear it for the first time they will get a feel for who I am as a breakout artist and want to see more of what I'm all about. "Colors" is a song anyone can relate to and just makes you want to get up and dance!
What would be your most memorable moment as Miss New Jersey Teen USA?
Definitely my journey to Miss Teen USA. Competing in the Bahamas was one of the best experiences of my life- partly because of how much I enjoy the actual competition, but mostly because of all the girls I made lasting friendships with. There is really no way to describe how close all of the girls and I got during that short period of time, but I have found in them sisters who will always be there for me.
Lastly, what have you been up to since your reign as Miss New Jersey Teen USA ended?
After I gave up my title in fall of 2011, I was signed by Trauma 2 Records as their newest pop artist. Since then, my life has been a whirlwind of photo shoots, recording sessions, auditions, and tons of hard work! I even shot my very own music video with Asher Brown- a force in the directing world. Also, I graduated high school with honors and I am looking forward to attending Fordham University to study Communications and Media Studies this fall. Basically my life as of late has become a constant juggle between school, friends, family, and of course, singing. It's hard to manage all of that, but I think because I love what I do so much I seem to make it all work just fine.
