Sarah French Interview
Miss Missouri 2006 (America's Best Smile @ Miss America 2007)
Miss Arkansas Teen USA 2004 (Miss Photogenic @ Miss Teen USA 2004)
Why did you decide to participate in the Miss Arkansas Teen USA and the Miss Mid-Missouri pageant?
I decided to compete in pageants for the chance to win scholarship money to help me pay for college at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
What was going through your head when your name was not called as the 1st runner up at both pageants?
It was surreal! I knew my life was about in change in ways I couldn’t even fathom. It’s a rush of emotions and can be very overwhelming.
What would be your most memorable moment at Miss Teen USA 2004?
Getting to know all the girls throughout the pageant was wonderful! I have so many cherished memories that I will never forget. I got to know Shelley Hennig during this time, who, as you know, ended up winning the pageant. Last year, I ran into her while I was working at NBC Universal, and she had recently been cast on Days of Our Lives.
What would be your most memorable experience at Miss America?
My most memorable experience was the Children’s Miracle Network dinner. We were able to watch a video about all the young children that our contributions and hard work go toward. It was a very powerful and moving experience.
You took the photogenic award at Miss Teen USA, what was going through your head when they announced you as Miss Photogenic?
I was shocked really because it was voted on by the public. It was truly an honor. I also won America’s Best Smile Award at Miss America, which was also voted on by the public.
Who would be your role model and why?
My role model would probably have to be Brian Williams. I think he is a phenomenal journalist. I got the chance to get to know him while I was working as an intern for NBC.
What have you been up to since your reign as Miss Missouri ended?
After my year as Miss Missouri, I went on to work as a summer intern for NBC Universal in Burbank, CA. In California, I worked for numerous TV shows, such as Deal or No Deal, The Office, Heroes, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Access Hollywood. Throughout college, I’ve been working as an anchor/reporter for KOMU 8 TV, the NBC-affiliate, in Columbia, Missouri. I’m currently in Beijing, China, working for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games as a flash quotes reporter, covering gymnastics and working alongside the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation).
