Natalie Glebova
Miss Universe 2005
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Universe Canada pageant?
I wanted to get a chance to perform on the national stage and also have the opportunity to wear the Miss Canada sash at the Miss Universe pageant. I've always loved performing and dancing, and Miss Universe Canada pageant allowed me to fulfill that desire.
What was going through your head when you were announced as the new Miss Universe?
For the first few seconds, my mind was blank. Surprise and shock were probably the first two things going through my head. Then was relief at the fact that it was all over, and finally happiness and exhilaration of knowing I've accomplished something so big! Looking back at it now it seems like a dream, but I'm so thankful for this moment.
Tell us about the work you did to increase awareness of HIV and AIDS during your reign as Miss Universe.
During my year as Miss Universe 2005 I was the spokesperson for bringing awareness to HIV/AIDS pandemic and to encourage everyone to get tested. I traveled around the world, meeting political and social leaders to discuss what can be done to stop the spread of HIV and how to change the stigma associated with this disease. I've taken several tests myself to set an example to young people everywhere to get tested as well.
What would be your most memorable moment as Miss Universe?
My most memorable experience was meeting the Nobel Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu in South Africa, being a guest in his home, and discussing the issues that are troubling his country.
Why did you decide to compete in "The Amazing Race Asia"?
I entered "The Amazing Race Asia" because I loved watching the show on TV and it seemed very exciting and adventurous.
Lastly, what have you been up to since your reign as Miss Universe ended?
It's been 6 years since I ended my reign as Miss Universe, and I've done many things in that time. I came back to live in Thailand and have called it home since then. I started a company called FAH Glebova International that creates products and services for healthy living. I wrote a book called Healthy Happy Beautiful that became a best seller here. I've continued modeling and being a brand ambassador for many companies around the world. I've worked with several charitable and non-profit organizations including WWF, UNEP and Traffic. Most recently, I launched my brand of perfume called Beauty Icon that is sold around Asia and hopefully more parts of the world in the near future. I also run an online health/beauty portal www.HHBLIFE.com where I post articles and videos on healthy living and tips on healthy eating, exercise, positive thinking and beauty.
