Kimberley Leggett
Miss Universe Malaysia 2012
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Universe Malaysia pageant?
Everyone has a dream and I always watched the Miss Universe pageant as a little girl growing up and through my teens. My mum told me that when I was 13, I told her, " I'm going to be on that stage one day." When I saw that the Miss Universe Malaysia pageant was happening one year in advance to allow ample preparation for the international competition, I thought that it was my chance to finally go for my dream and win or not win, it would be a money can't buy experience.
What was going through your head when you were announced as the new Miss Universe Malaysia?
'When's the alarm going to ring?' - I thought I was in a dream.
As the winner of Miss Photogenic at the Miss Universe Malaysia pageant, what advice would you give to those wanting to look more photogenic in photos?
I think you have to know your body/face well. Knowing what angles will make your face/body look its best, because everybody is different. Practice in the mirror and simply believing the emotion you have to portray in the particular photo always helps. Be confident and let your best smile be captured!
If you were to convince someone that has never been to Malaysia to visit, how would you convince them?
If I had to convince someone to come to Malaysia, I would say that if you want to explore the continent of Asia, you can kill two birds with one stone by visiting Malaysia! It's a melting pot of cultures, cuisines and lifestyles with a diverse landscape -from mountains to relaxed beaches and lush rain forests. You can enjoy Malaysia which is 'Truly Asia' from the food and culture but you fall in love with Malaysia by the people.
What are you looking forward to the most at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant?
The whole experience is what I'm excited about! Meeting the girls, traveling overseas, the rehearsals, the activities, knowing what goes on backstage and lastly the final night itself. After a year of preparation, I'm looking forward to putting my best for Malaysia on that stage and (hopefully!) making history. It would be a showcase of all the training I've been doing and it will a moment I will not forget for the rest of my life.
What would be your most memorable moment so far as Miss Universe Malaysia?
It's difficult to pinpoint one moment that has been above and beyond the rest! I would say that every time I go to an event, whether it be the SPCA International Homeless Day Event or The Borneo International Marathon for example; the moments where Malaysians (of all ages) approach me and tell me how proud they are that I am the representative and that they fully support what I'm doing and what I've done in the past year. It's truly rewarding and makes every little 'break of sweat' worth it.
Lastly, what do you hope to achieve by the end of your reign as Miss Universe Malaysia?
To make history! :D Or if not, to put Malaysia on the Miss Universe map! :)
