Katherine Puryear
Miss North Carolina's Outstanding Teen 2009 (3rd runner up @ MAOT 2010)
Miss North Carolina Teen USA 2012 (top 16 @ Miss Teen USA 2012)
Why did you decide to compete in Miss Thomasville's Outstanding Pageant?
Well, the only reason I decided to do a pageant is because I wanted a crown. I mean, is that not every little girls dream? With the help of my supporters, "Team Kat" I was presented with an opportunity of competing in the pageant. From then on….I have been hooked!
Tell us about your platform, "The Boys and Girls Clubs of America" which you used during your reign as Miss North Carolina's Outstanding Teen.
I have been actively involved with the "BGC" for about 5 years now, and I enjoy every second of it! What most people perceive about the club is that it is only for people in rough area or who are not financially stable. However, that may be the case for some children, but not all of them! I mean, I am a prime example! The Boys and Girls Club is a positive place for kids to grow; and being a staff member myself, I am humbled that I can help make a difference in a child's life!
What was going through your head when you were announced as the 3rd runner up at Miss America's Outstanding Teen?
Complete shock! Not because I was not the winner, but because I actually made it that far! It was my 3rd pageant and I was 15 years old competing on a NATIONAL stage, how many people can say that?!
Why did you decide to crossover and compete in Miss Universe system?
Well I LOVE competing, so since I was still young enough to compete in the Teen system I figured why not do it one more time! The two well known systems are the "Miss America Organization" and the "Miss Universe Organization" (even though people get them confused a lot of the time). Not being able to compete again in the MAO, the next step was to go to MUO!
What would be your most memorable moment so far as Miss North Carolina Teen USA?
I have throughly enjoyed all the appearances that i have been to throughout the year! From photo shoots, runway shows, special olympics, US veterans and much much more my favorite would have to be the Father/Daughter Dance appearance. I was able to sign autographs and take pictures with every single girl that came, and there was over 300! I had so much fun watching the girl's dance with there father or father figure and being able to be princesses for a little while! I went to the event with my grandfather and I could not have asked for a better person to go with!
Lastly, what will you be up to after your reign as Miss North Carolina Teen USA ends?
Well, ever since I got back from Teen USA I have been busier than ever! I have been getting ready to go to school at University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and driving back and froth to Atlanta for some modelling jobs. So after my reign I plan on getting acquainted with the campus life and living on my own, and sign with some agencies in other places like Atlanta, California, Miami or New York. So Big, BIG plans ahead for this girl!! (;
