Jessica Rowell Interview
Miss South Dakota USA 2009
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss South Dakota USA pageant?
My best friend, Alexis LeVan, was Miss South Dakota USA 2006 and I wanted to experience all of the opportunities she did. She was my motivation!
What was going through your head when you realized you were the new Miss South Dakota USA?
I was so relieved that all of my hard work had paid off. I knew I had what it took to win the title and I was so happy when I was crowned and felt so privileged that I was going to Miss USA.
You competed in the Miss USA pageant in April. What would be your most memorable moment at Miss USA?
Getting to know all of the extraordinary young women and competing on live national television. It was something I will never forget!
What would be your main goal as Miss South Dakota USA?
Be a role model for young women everywhere. I love being an inspiration for young women to have confidence and achieve the dreams they have.
Tell us about your involvement with the “Shooting Stars All-Stars”.
I have been involved with cheerleading for over 11 years and I have also worked with children with special needs since high school. So, I thought I would create an activity for young people with special needs. They practice at the cheer gymnasium once a week and they perform at local cheer competitions.
What would be your most memorable moment so far as Miss South Dakota USA?
Seeing young women gain self confidence and realize that if they are willing to work hard for their dreams they can come true.
Do you think you’ve made a difference since you were crowned Miss South Dakota USA?
Yes, I do. I have learned a lot about myself and that has allowed me to impact other young women. I have seen them gain self confidence and self esteem and I love that!
