Jamie Hill Interview
Miss South Carolina USA 2008 + Miss USA 2008 top 15
Why did you decide to participate in “The Amazing Race”?
I wanted to compete on The Amazing Race because I have always wanted to travel the world. The race provided an opportunity to do that with my best friend, Kellie, while also competing in various challenges. I am an athlete and have a competitive nature so this seemed like the perfect way for me to release that energy while doing something I am passionate about which is travel.
What was your most memorable moment at “The Amazing Race?
The most memorable moment for me was climbing the Great Wall of China while in Beijing. It is such a historical landmark that to be able to see it in person and actually climb it felt so empowering. I felt like I could do anything after that!
Why did you decide to participate in the Miss South Carolina USA pageant?
I decided to compete in the Miss South Carolina USA pageant because I have always wanted to represent the wonderful state of South Carolina. The Palmetto State means so much to be because I was born and raised here, received my education here, and it truly is my home. There is no place I am more proud of and I just hope I have made them proud as well.
What was going on in your head when you were announced in the top 15 at Miss USA?
“DID THEY JUST CALL MY STATE?” As I walked forward smiling and feeling so utterly happy I was still hoping that it was actually South Carolina they called. It was a great feeling to be recognized among so many talented, intelligent, beautiful women.
You competed in Miss South Carolina USA once and placed 3rd before you won the title, what motivated you to compete for the title once again?
It was the strangest thing because after placing third in 2006 I thought I was done with pageants. Not because I was a sore loser or anything haha I just was ready to move on and concentrate on my career. I decided very last minute to compete again for the 2008 title because I felt that I was at a really great place in my life, a point in my life where I believed I would be able to impact others and be a solid representative for South Carolina. The rest is history :)
Who would be your role model and why?
I have many role models and they are all for different reasons. One of them is my best friend Travis, because he is so passionate about what he does. He never lets fear get the best of him. I admire that a lot in him and his courage reminds me to not let fear hold me back from achieving my dreams.
Thanks to Pam for helping me with this interview.
