Elizabeth Hoffman Interview
Miss South Dakota Teen USA 2008
Why did you decide to participate in the Miss South Dakota Teen USA pageant?
My sister, Alexandra, was previously involved in the pageant. She had so much fun and met so many neat people on public appearances! She encouraged me to do it and I am very glad I did.
Your sister Alexandra Hoffman is the current Miss South Dakota and was a former Miss South Dakota Teen USA, what was one piece of advice that she gave you that really helped you through Miss South Dakota Teen USA?
My sister actually wrote me a letter before I competed. The letter says, “Change the future for young women in our state and MAKE A DIFFERENCE.” “Stand high and hold your head proud.” That was the greatest piece of advice, because it is true. Being a titleholder requires you to hold your head proud and make a difference. I have strived to do just that throughout my reign.
You competed in the Miss South Dakota Teen USA pageant in 2007 and finished as the 2nd runner up, what motivated you to come back and compete once again for the title?
I had a blast my first year and had so much fun throughout the whole weekend. It was just something I really wanted. I really wanted to be given the opportunity to represent South Dakota. In addition, I really wanted to be given the chance to compete for the opportunity of being Miss Teen USA, but I knew that dream could not become a reality unless I first won my state pageant.
If someone was reluctant to participate in the Miss South Dakota Teen USA pageant and it was your job to persuade her to participate, how would you persuade her?
I would keep on telling her that the pageant changes people in ways that are indescribable. They provide women with confidence and give then excellent interview skills. I would ensure her that she would walk away from the pageant with a great experience behind her and nothing lost, but only things gained.
You will be heading to the Bahamas for the Miss Teen USA pageant in a few short weeks, what experience are you particularly looking forward too?
WOOO HOOO is my first response to that! I am looking forward to every single piece of it! Meeting all the girls, being at the Bahamas, rehearsals, and the competition are all going to be so much fun. If I’d have to pinpoint one, I would say the competition. I love being on stage and competing.
Who would be your role model and why?
My mother is my role model. She is the most giving person I have ever met. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and never ceases to put other in front of herself. I love my mother a lot, and she is my number one role model.
Thank you to the FP staff and Elizabeth for setting this up :)
