Chelsea Gilligan Interview
Miss California Teen USA 2009 + 2nd runner up at Miss Teen USA 2009
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss California Teen USA pageant?
I had never been in a pageant before and I’ve watched them practically all my life. I looked at myself in the mirror and said “Huh? Why not me?”
What was going through your head when you were announced as the new Miss California USA?
To be honest, I can’t remember. My adrenaline was running wild and I told myself that I wouldn’t hysterically cry and I totally did!
You competed in the Miss CA Teen USA 2008 pageant and placed as the 1st runner up. What motivated you to come back and compete again for the 2009 title?
I loved the experience and to never be in a pageant before and make it that far was a huge accomplishment. I thought to myself if I can make it that far the first time who
knows what the second time will bring.
You flew to Las Vegas in April for several events. What would be you most memorable moment in Las Vegas?
Definitely being able to attend the Miss USA pageant! All of the Teens were literally on the edge of their seats, wondering the results. It was the most intense thing I’ve ever watched live. I had an amazing time!
What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming Miss Teen USA pageant?
I’m looking forward to meeting all of the girls, staying at the fabulous Atlantic Resort and winning Miss Teen USA!!
What issues are you focusing on as Miss California Teen USA?
I have a couple of platforms that I’m focusing on. I’m getting the word at to teenagers to abstain from alcohol, drugs and sex! That’s definitely not the way to fit in, also I’m trying to raise awareness of the disease Multiple Sclerosis. It’s a neurological disease that affects men, women, and children. One day we will find a cure.
What would be your most memorable moment so far as Miss California Teen USA?
That’s a tough one! I’ve had so many fantastic times, memories and experiences being
Miss California Teen USA! I’m not sure if I can pick just one. =) Ask that question at the end of my reign. haha
Lastly, who would be your role model and why?
There are many wonderful people in my life. I would have to say my Mommy! She has been there for me for everything, from swimming lessons, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, ice skating etc. Oh and of course my pageant! She is not only my mom but also my best friend. I don’t know what I’d do without her! She is my strength, my shoulder to cry on and my peanut butter and jelly maker! I love her with all my heart and soul!'
