Brittany Sharp
Miss Georgia Teen USA 2006 (4th runner up @ Miss Teen USA 2006)
Why did you decide to compete in the Miss Georgia Teen USA pageant?
Every year for as long as I can remember, my mom and I loved watching Miss USA and Miss Teen USA together. Not in my craziest dreams would I have thought that I would be up on that stage one short year later! A close family friend of mine called my mom after Allie LaForce won in 2005 and said, "I'm signing Britt up!" I was all for it, and it didn't take much to get mom on board! I played sports growing up so I was really excited to try something super different from anything I had done before.
Did you feel that your age was a disadvantage for you going into the Miss Teen USA pageant?
I have always been told that I am wise beyond my years, and so I have never been one to let my age hold me back from pursuing my dreams! I was a little worried about it being a disadvantage for me at first, but I was lucky to have such an amazing support system between my family and the Greenwood family to pump me up and assure me that only being 15 was nothing to worry about.
What was going through your head when you were announced as the 4th runner up at Miss Teen USA?
Gosh, it was a whirlwind of emotions for sure. I felt so blessed and honored to be standing in the top 5 with so many amazing girls! The whole Miss Teen USA experience was surreal and getting called 4th runner up was the icing on the cake to an incredible 3 weeks in Palm Springs! Of course I wish that I would have won the title because it was a dream of mine and something I had worked so hard for. But I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. God had a different plan for me :)
What would be your most memorable moment as Miss Georgia Teen USA?
Over my reign I created so many memories that will always be near and dear to my heart. I spent the year on the go and having truly so much fun! But the one moment that sticks out the most was when I actually heard my name called out as the new Miss Georgia Teen USA! The crowning moment was an indescribable feeling. It seemed too good to be true! This was my first pageant so I really didn't know what to expect and went in with the attitude of just being myself and letting whatever was meant to happen, happen. I am so thankful and blessed to have had this opportunity in my life, it has opened numerous doors and has truly helped mould me into the person I am today!
Why did you decide to major in broadcasting in university?
Well, over the course of that year, I had the opportunity to interview and co-host both on T.V as well as radio stations throughout the state. I felt very comfortable being on-air and really enjoyed it! I think that's what sparked my interest in turning something I was passionate about into a career. All of this got put into play when I got to the University of Georgia and decided to major in Broadcast Journalism. I have grown up watching and playing sports, so hopefully I can combine my two loves and become a sports broadcaster. After I graduate this spring I want to dive right into the field...so watch out Erin Andrews :)
Lastly, what have you been up to since your reign as Miss Georgia Teen USA ended?
Time flies by fast! Well, currently I am finishing up my senior year at the University of Georgia. Go Dawgs! Over the past year, I've had the incredible opportunity to intern with IMG Georgia Bulldog Network and work first hand with the broadcasting for all UGA sports. While I've been here, I have also joined Kappa Delta Sorority and recently just got my precious puppy Sadie! College flew by fast, but I have loved every second of it. I can't wait to see what God has in the works for me next! Life is good!
